EDM is an abbreviation for Electrical Discharge Machining. The basic working principle of EDM is to use a continuously moving thin metal wire (called the electrode wire) as an electrode to remove metal from the workpiece through pulsed spark discharge, thus cutting and shaping it.

 

It is mainly used to process various complex and precise small workpieces, such as punches and dies in blanking dies, punch-die combinations, fixing plates, stripper plates, forming tools, templates, metal electrodes for EDM forming, and various micro-holes, narrow slots, and arbitrary curves. It has outstanding advantages such as small machining allowance, high machining accuracy, short production cycle, and low manufacturing cost, and has been widely used in production. Domestically and internationally, wire EDM machines account for more than 60% of the total number of EDM machine tools.
